I had lunch today with someone who’s been an acquaintance for a while, but I’m now beginning to know as a friend. She is remarkable, although she’d never describe herself that way. I admire her serenity in the midst of upset and her generous, giving spirit when she could easily – and justifiably – be guarded and greedy.
We talked about childhood; we shared experiences of leaving the past and moving forward, even when the target wasn’t clear. And we agreed on the value of patience – of letting situations play out – and how the results revealed by time are often much better than anything we could ever orchestrate on our own.
I left feeling uplifted for just being in my friend’s presence. That’s the gift I received today.
